One of the english summer storms of 2014 recorded on a condenser mic. The neighbor's dog barks at it at some point. Naturalistic, no processing done to it whatsoever.

This sample is free for all. It's a background musical layer for puting more feelings in your movie or game. I created this with the a programm by magix. It's royality free and good.

This is from the 24th may 2016 morning thunderstorms over pécel, hungary recorded at 7am using my sony icd-ux512 stereo dictaphone.

I made this binaural recording while standing on a suburban street in the middle of a thunderstorm (in my socks) carrying an umbrella. There are some nice lightning strikes, and birds can be heard in the background. ----recorded with two sony lavalieres -> a zoom h1 (with home-made felt windscreens).

I was doing some field recording and it so happen that when i was out and about we had hail storm so i recorded from the start to finish. Whew! almost got hit by a hail stone as big as a pingpong ball. Yes, it was that big my car has dent all over, not good aye!.

This is a recording made on june 04, 2007, in greensboro, north carolina, usa, of a heavy thunderstorm with close lightning strikes, featuring a neighborhood dog in the background. Recorded using an edirol r1 and linkwitz modified panasonic wm61 capsules mounted on a home-made jecklin disk.

This is a segment of a larger recording of a thunderstorm from march 24, 2012, in greensboro, north carolina, usa, including some small hail. This was taken on the night of march 24, 2012, with an olympus ls100 and an audio technica at-822 single-point x/y stereo microphone.

A big carton board was held by two people, and then shaken to produce the deep rumbling sound. Various ways of shaking and holding it, resulted in a very close thunder sound. A zoom h6 recorder, with the xy capsule was used to record it, inside of a classroom.

I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. July 2013, rcording from setup pc in greenhouse. Extreme rain changing to hail (25 mm diamter)for a couple of minutes, then rain again. Last bit of recording is sound from pc fan. Did not cut it off, wanted to let listeners understand that i made a temporary installation in the greenhouse for capturing the immense noise.

Another recording of rain and thunder, but in some ways a better one. This one is a surprisingly big crack and rumble preceded and followed by a nice sounding rain. I made this by positioning a stereo-matched pair of akg c451b condenser mics in an exaggerated x-y configuration (a wider stereo field) and aiming them out of my open window. The mics went into a universal audio 2-610 preamp, an apogee duet 2, and then ableton at 48khz and 24 bits. I believe i had the mics set flat, and there was no post processing (though i was mightily tempted to upload the much-better-sounding eqed and compressed files) so that you can fine tune it to suit your needs. You'll notice that the loudest parts of the thunder boom clipped the input, but, due to the pleasant and forgiving nature of vacuum tubes, the clipping sounds more compressed than distorted. Feel free to use this sound in any commercial or artistic work! you do not need to credit me.

This was recorded while sitting in a closet during a tornado warning as a thunder-storm raged outside the house. It was recorded on april 28, 2020 in tulsa, oklahoma. There are several very low frequency booms from the deep thunder. You can hear the faint sound of tornado sirens blaring outside. There is also the intermittent sound of panicked breathing by one of the two dogs that were also riding out the storm, sheltered in the closet. A thunderbolt rattles some wood hangers on the hanger rod.

Recorded on 23rd july 2013 with an olympus ls-10. This was about 04:30 in the morning and has been edited with audacity (two takes have been put together). The location is essex, uk.

A few minutes of a thunderstorm recorded from my window in atchison kansas at around 10:30 pm. You can faintly hear the neighbor kid's tv on the other side of the wall in the background. Recorded with lifecam hd3000 sitting on my bed about a meter from the 2 open windows facing east.

This caught my attention as an unfamiliar sound, and i actually had to investigate to learn what it was. It was the raindrops hitting some styrofoam bodyboards near a swimming pool, which at times sounded almost more like a hollow "pop" than a "drip. ". In the background one can hear thunder, rain, and the humming of a pool filtration system. Recorded with an iphone 7.

I saw this huge storm brewing, so i put my laptop next to an open window, thinking that i might record a nice atmospheric recording of rain and light thunder, and i caught this thing, no more than 500m away. I had the sensitivity turned all the way up, and the microphone i am using isn't the best, but someone might get a use of it :).

Chldren were playing in the neighbour when a low lightning activity thunderstorm came to pécel and lasted for 1-2 hours. It produced 10 mm of moderate rain and bright intracloud lightning. Recorded by my sony stereo dictaphone. The storm arrival had a little disaster movie impression for me.

A very loud and rumbly thunderstorm rolled through jefferson city, mo. I set up my zoom h4n with the mics set to 120 degrees to record the storm. Less than a minute after i started recording, a lightning bolt hit just across the street. A lot of loud and rumbly thunder in this audio clip.

Thunderstorm aftermath. Sounds of a thunderstorm about 10 minutes after it left the area. So low rumbles and rain dripping. The sound was recorded using a yamaha audiogram6 connected to a radioshack brand vocal microphone. Sampling was done at 44,100hz and the data was recorded using audacity. I recorded everything as a wav file and then uploaded it the same.

Checked-in to a hotel in raleigh, north carolina with my wife to catch a flight early the next morning out of rdu. Suddenly, a storm rolled in to the area and, since we were going to bed anyway, i placed my zoomh4npro (120 degree setting) on the air conditioning unit below the window. The rain becomes more and more heavy and loud, the raindrops beat down on the leaves of a chestnut tree and the plastic sheets. Well. . . . . Field recording is a bit of a stretch this was recorded on my back porch in springfield mo usa in june of 2000. I used a minidisk and two pzm's and a home made spliter box that worked only if you never touched it. It was one in the morning to try and avoid most of the traffic. Rain starts about half way in. Hail comes inthis was a strange storm. Tons of lightning, but only distant thunder. The rain was nearly falling vertically. Audio description: may 20, 2014. Hail comes in and pounds a deck outside for about a minute or so, then fades and raindrops themselves take prominence. The wind picks up, so you can hear wind chimes going at it and some deep rolling thunder far in the background. If you’ve experienced high winds before, it will probably sound scary to you at volume. Recorded with a tascam dr-05 with a dead cat and no low cut. I got the mics as close to an open window as i could without being ridiculous. Cropped and faded in and out in audacity. No other modifications, so you’ll have to normalize it and equalize to your liking. Might be useful as a “heavy rain” sound, since the hail kind of sounds like that anyway.

This is a short clip from an intense thunderstorm, recorded from my second story queens apartment from an open bathroom window during the early afternoon of july 15, 2015. Some traffic and airplanes can be heard in the background. This clip was recorded using an apple iphone 6 and the zoom iq6 x/y stereo microphone with a rode dead kitten windscreen at low volume, normalized later. This recording lasts until the battery on my iphone hit 5%, at which point the zoom handy recorder app automatically stopped.

A typhoon thunderstorm recorded in a backyard of an apartment complex in xinyi district, taipei city, taiwan, in late august, 2022. Rain can be heard falling on grass, the glass roof over the recording area, and various roof materials in the area such as tin, brick, concrete, and clay tile. Occasionally, there is thunder.
